The summer shift which runs at the Rosa Khutor resort from June 1-12 provides intensive sport training and independence skills to teenagers and young adults with cerebral spastic infantile paralysis, Down’s syndrome, autism disorders, and other disabilities.
Simultaneously, there is rehabilitation for their parents, who have been in a state of physical and mental exhaustion and co-dependent relationship with their own children for years.
The inclusive project has been organized by the League of Dreams comprehensive personal rehabilitation program, with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund
League of Dreams is currently holding an experimental shift where the children’s and adult environments do not correlate. Children are under constant supervision of the instructors who prepared an intensive sport program that includes volleyball, fitness, stretching, roller-sport, and other physical activities. Parents are also taking an intensive program. They attend zumba, yoga, and painting classes, hike in the mountains and have psychotherapy sessions every day. A League of Dreams psychologists guides surveys which will be used to develop a methodological manual and share the experience with similar rehabilitation centers across the country.
League of Dreams program supervisor Natalia Belogolovtseva, says: "We are actively testing the sector of inclusive tourism for our mentee families. This model is in great demand and effectively improves the physical and mental health of not only children but also their parents. This format of traveling is a great way to visit new cities, meet like-minded people, work with a team of professionals and just get a lot of positive emotions and impressions. We are preparing to launch several shifts at Russian resorts this summer and make the program year-round.
The shift is supported by the Rosa Khutor resort and Azimut Freestyle Hotel, which actively participate in the League of Dreams program and are ready to accommodate families with special needs children.
League of Dreams is an innovative social program that enables people with special needs to enjoy precision sports that were considered inaccessible to them. They can try alpine skiing, roller skating, and team game sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, grass curling, badminton, etc.
The project was launched in January 2014 by actor Sergei Belogolovtsev and his wife Natalia. The unique rehabilitation program has helped thousands of children and adults since. Alpine skiing is taught by skilled instructors who use a special methodology to facilitate treatment, rehabilitation, and socialization of people with disabilities.
The programs priority is to increasing the number of centers in the Russian regions in order to make the therapeutic sport more available. The League of Dreams network currently covers 41 Russian regions. It can offer 57 ski slopes, 65 roller sport centers, and more than 800 professional instructors. Over 10,000 people all over the country aged 3 to 82 have participated in the program.
