According to some reports, the party leaders have decided to restore the reputation and people’s trust. Experts are confident that the main reason of falling popularity rankings was the pension reform, as well as the increase of VAT and the overall tax burden.
The elections to the Moscow City Duma and election-related tumult, as well as their results, made it clear that United Russia has been rapidly losing its positions that have been persistently strong over many years. According to some reports, United Russia leaders have decided to restore the reputation of the party and popular trust in it. Experts are confident that the main reason of popularity tailspin was the pension reform, the increase of VAT and the tax burden. However, the parliamentary election is to be held in the country in two years, and United Russia will not be able to regain its positions so quickly. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with Alexander Melman by the famous journalist Vladimir Posner. “It is not a quasi-party of some kind, it is a party after all. I wouldn’t say United Russia is in a crisis, but it undoubtedly has problems. All the polls held by various institutions during the analysis of public moods, are showing that people do not trust the parties represented in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Their rankings are extremely low. Moreover, they are falling rapidly. That is why United Russia leaders are pondering what might happen in 2021. I believe that United Russia will be in serious trouble,” Posner said. It is noteworthy in this context that, according to some data, the number of members of seats in the State Duma controlled by United Russia may decrease by 50% after the parliamentary election of 2021.
