ZooFriend sent 28 tons of cargo for zoos and shelters in Kherson, Melitopol and Donetsk. This is different types of animal feed, wheat groats and veterinary medicines. In addition, a diesel generator was sent to the Mariupol Zoo, and the Donetsk Botanical Garden received the necessary equipment.
ZooFriend expands its geography and for the first time sent aid to Kherson and Melitopol. In addition, for the second time the ZooFriend’s trucks will deliver 20 tons of aid to Donetsk, and from there part of the cargo will be transferred to Mariupol. ZooFriend’s trucks will arrive in destination cities on May 26-27. More and more Russian citizens and organizations are joining the collection of aid. Thank you to all those who are not indifferent and support ZooFriend’s campaign.
“Despite the worst humanitarian crisis local people do not leave animals in distress and continue to take care of them,” said Elena Sharoykina, chairwoman of the Commission for Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. “I would like to thank Anna Krivonogova, Head of the Neovit veterinary clinic, and Taras Aliper, Vetbiohim’s CEO, who donated funds for the purchase of a diesel generator within the Help Donbass Animals campaign, initiated by Irina Donnik, vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The diesel generator will provide uninterrupted power supply to the refrigerators that store meat for the raptors. I also express gratitude to the Russian Geographical Society for donating help to the Donetsk Botanical Garden.”
The All-Russian campaign ZooFriend was launched on March 31, 2022 at the initiative of the Commission on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. Within its framework, money, feed and veterinary preparations are collected, and stray animals are exported to Russia, and help is sent to zoos and shelters in Donbass and cities in Ukraine.
Previously, two ZooFriend’s trucks have already delivered the necessary aid to Donetsk and Lugansk in the total weight of over 35 tons, which was distributed among zoos, animal shelters, equestrian clubs and shelters for homeless animals.
Since the start of the campaign, thanks to ZooFriend, the Mariupol zoo received veterinary medicines, a diesel generator, electrodes for welding, and funds to buy five tons of hay and four tons of oats. Together with the All-Russia People's Front (ONF) in Vladimir and Ulyanovsk, dogs, cats and parrots in temporary accommodation centers for refugees from the DPR and LPR and some regions of Ukraine were provided with food. In addition, 20 dogs and 22 cats were brought to Russia from the Home of Angels shelter in the Kharkov region, as well as 10 dogs from Donetsk. The Svoya Staya center, Lesnoy Shelter and the Nika Foundation took care of them. The animals have already found new owners in Russia. The Four Paws shelter in Donetsk, where 600 dogs and 100 cats are cared for, received 243 kg of food. ZooFriend gave Russian servicemen taking part in the special operation in Ukraine bags for transportation to the Four Paws shelter for animals left without owners.
The ZooFriend aid collection point is located in the public humanitarian aid collection center for the residents of Donbass in the building of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on Miusskaya Square in Moscow.
