Some forces in the Kremlin are acting as Vladimir Putin’s opponents and they do not want him to be the Russian President, Alexei Lapushkin told reporters.
Alexey Lapushkin, Candidate of Economic Sciences and Secretary of the Federal Council of the Party of Business, has recently made a statement suggesting that the political elite entered a phase of internal confrontation, which might trigger a strong political crisis in the country.
Some forces in the Kremlin are acting as Vladimir Putin’s opponents and they do not want him to be the Russian President, Lapushkin said in a conversation with reporters.
According to him, currently, the opposition’s potential is not as powerful as it could be.
“It is clear that certain forces in the Kremlin aligning with the Western countries, do not want Vladimir Putin to remain the Russian President,” says Lapushkin. “I do think so. I also don't see any difference between Alexei Navalny [the leader of Russia’s non-parliament opposition] and Alexei Kudrin [a Russian liberal politician and economist serving as the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber.]
“In my opinion, they belong to the same team. If they win and form a powerful political tandem, for example, with Navalny in the role of President and Kudrin as the Prime Minister, we are likely to remember then what happened in the 1990s, and to see a completely different foreign policy, such as the return of the Crimea. From an economic point of view, I also do not expect anything good.
“Although, it is fair to say that the Western countries might loosen the economic stranglehold for Russia, which will bring certain advantages to the Russian residents. In any case, the potential of the opposition is not as strong as it could be.”
