According to the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor,) at present, more than 180,000 people are under medical supervision in Russia. Due to certain factors, they are suspected to be diagnosed with the coronavirus.
As of the morning of Wednesday, April 8, a total of 1,175 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Russia. The total number of cases all over the country was 8,672. In general, this statistics shows that Russia remains the last large country in the world where the situation with the spread of the virus does not look so depressing. Meanwhile, experts believe that the spread of coronavirus within Russia could have been slower. The only problem is that many people neglect the recommendations of healthcare officials and violate the quarantine. For example, Viktor Maleyev, an advisor for scientific research to the director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology at Rospotrebnadzor, agrees with this opinion. He indicated that in the vast majority of cases, the disease was identified in people who had returned to Russia from abroad. However, all subsequent cases were caused by the solely by encroachments on the regulations for self-isolation. “Approximately 90% of cases are imported from other countries,” RIA Novosti quoted Maleyev. “But now it has begun to spread gradually within Russia from those who came back from abroad and neglected the rules of quarantine. This is what we actually see.”At the same time, people are developing awareness of the danger of possible rapid spread of COVID-19 and the importance of precluding this scenario. For example, not so long ago St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov urged the residents of the city to observe the instructions for self-isolation. “At the moment, total self-isolation is a key measure of protection from the epidemic,” stressed Maleyev. “It is a reasonable precautionary measure that will help avoid punishing ourselves for being too careless.” It is noteworthy that despite the low statistics on number of cases and deaths, the risk of COVID-19 spread within the country remains less unambiguous. For example, according to the same Rospotrebnadzor, at present, more than 180,000 people are under medical supervision in Russia. Due to certain factors, they are suspected of having the coronavirus. The global situation with the spread of COVID-19 looks much more frightening. Thus, in recent days, the United States took the first place in the number of cases. As of today, more than 399,900 cases were recorded there. Most of them are in a single state, New York. It is also noteworthy that just recently, the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, demonstratively ignored safety regulations and called on others to follow his example. He continued to go to the gym and supported the decision of city’s cafes and restaurants to stay open. According to the American media, it was this carelessness that led up to these grave consequences.
