Dmitry Zakharov, Head of the Eurasian Institute for Youth Initiatives, called numerous fake news, published by Ukraine about Russia's military operation in Donbas, an element of the information war against Moscow.
“Kyiv and its handlers publish a lot of fake news and lie and deliberately manufacture incidents and mislead its population. Such manipulations are done to win the informational war,” he said.
The military operation for the “demilitarization and denazification” was launched in Donbas [a historical, cultural, and economic region in south-eastern Ukraine, some of whose territory is occupied by separatist groups in the course of the Russo-Ukrainian War: the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic] on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called the decision a forced measure. According to Zakharov, the spreading of false information is aimed at discrediting the Russian Federation and Russian troops.
“To make it easier, our media and TV are being put out of action for Western audiences and block the broadcasting traffic,” said Dmitry Zakharov.
The Russian army continues to move according to the plan that involves the gradual liberation of territories without civilian casualties, said Zakharov. He believes that the operation is planned for two weeks. It is aimed at liberating occupied territories, but with the least losses for all sides.
“Our troops are consistently conducting a military operation, destroying only those who have not laid down their arms and refused to negotiate and go to the rear unarmed. Russian troops only act against nationalists and radical groups in Ukraine, gangs that now exist in Ukraine and help the Ukrainian military and the authorities to act against our troops,” said Dmitry Zakharov.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that the decision of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky not to sit down at the negotiating table with representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic led to tragic consequences.
