The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every single country in the world. Russia is on the list of “leaders” and is ranking among the top ten countries in terms of the total number of cases.
In addition, the situation is complicated by the fact that due to the high rate of spread of the disease, the authorities have repeatedly had to impose various restrictions that triggered irritation to residents.
This is quite understandable. In the conditions of lockdown many people have, in fact, lost their income and means of subsistence. Many believed that targeted assistance from the government was insufficient to ensure a comfortable standard of living during the "coronavirus crisis." Russians have had this experience at least twice. First, it happened at the end of spring and beginning of summer 2020, and then at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Now, however, it seems that the situation is beginning to stabilize. This fact, as Vladimir Putin has recently said, makes it possible to gradually lift the restrictions imposed earlier.
The Russian President made an assessment of the epidemiological situation with the spread of the novel coronavirus infection in the country. According to him, the situation in Russia is "gradually stabilizing." Therefore, the restrictions imposed earlier due to COVID-19 pandemic are to be gradually lifted. Putin made this statement during an online meeting with Russian university students on the Student Day on January 25.
"By and large, the epidemiological situation in Russia is gradually stabilizing,” Putin said. “I just heard reports on it this morning. According to these data, we already have a significantly higher number of people who have recovered than the number of those who have just caught the virus," Putin said, adding that the number of daily new cases is also declining.
"There are already less than 20,000 people," he said.
The Russian President also expressed gratitude to Moscow authorities. He stressed that it was thanks to their efforts that the situation in the country as a whole began to level off. "The situation makes it possible to carefully lift the restrictions imposed earlier and get back to regular schedules at schools."
Notably, according to the operational headquarters formed under the Russian government to counter the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, as of February 16, 2021, a total of 13,233 new COVID-19 cases were registered in the country. This is the first time in four months that fewer than 14,000 cases per day have been identified in the country, while the number of people who recovered from the virus was even greater. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has exceeded the number of 4.04 mln people.
