Recently, some Russian experts have voiced the opinion that certain members of the ruling elites are likely to be conspiring against the Russian President.
According to them, in doing so, the ruling Russian elites are trying to remove Putin from presidency, to plunge the country into chaos and thereby to obtain the opportunity to transfer the remaining funds and resources abroad.
For instance, Mikhail Khazin, an economist, journalist and public figure, has repeatedly spoken about the scenario of a coup d'etat with corresponding objectives. He emphasized that some representatives of the financial and economic departments might be the participants in the plot against Putin. Khazin even named the key suspects. They are Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina. Political analyst Sergei Mikheyev shares his viewpoint. In his opinion, Alexei Navalny who has recently become the main personage on Russia's domestic political agenda is likely to be guided not only by Western special services but also by some members of Russia's liberal elites.
Political analyst Yevgeny Minchenko, the head of the International Institute of Political Analysis, commented on these statements. He is skeptical about all versions of possible overthrow of the current political model of management of Russia. However, at the same time, he believes that intrigues are likely to become worse inside the ruling groups.
"To my thinking, certain people are actually trying to use Alexei Navalny as a tool. In particular, by leaking him certain information. However, it seems to me that they don't have the task of bringing down the regime. Most likely, they are just trying to use this channel for some kind of intra-elite showdown," says Minchenko.
As for Khazin’s suspicions of Siluanov and Nabiullina’s involvement in a conspiracy against Putin, Minchenko disagrees with this assertion.
"I doubt that they might be involved. As it seems to me, they are simply career-oriented officials. Moreover, they try to position themselves as apolitical bureaucrats and experts. That is why I suppose that they definitely don’t have political subjectivity, although they’ve been described with the word recently," the Tsargrad media outlet cites Minchenko.
Notably, the active comments of some experts associated with a possible conspiracy by certain members of the elite who want to remove or at least weaken the political and power positions of the incumbent Russian President started appearing after a series of media attacks on him.
